Abigail的故事 – Some Thoughts

It all started on a normal busy day at work.
Slumping into the office chair, after a seven-hour long surgery, Abigail put hands behind her head, eyes closed, leaning back to relax.
As a seasoned and accomplished neurosurgeon, at the age of 42, Abigail had been devoting herself in treating patients and researching on medical methods that may improve patients’ well-being and survival rate. Home, hospital, hospital, home, her life never deviated from such simple, direct route that she believed would help achieve her aspiration—she wanted to alleviate and cure health problems of people’s nervous system, a discipline which she had been trained and practiced for more than a decade. Her beloved grandfather, a well-respected journalist, died when she was 14, of glioblastoma. She was sad, yet helpless, witnessing once a robust and humorous man painfully tortured by sudden disease and to death. It was then that she made up her mind to become a neurosurgeon. And she succeeded.
A jangling sound interrupted the ease. It was her phone ringing untimely.
“Hello, is this Dr. Gu speaking?”. A silky, polite female voice.
“Yes. And how can I help you?”
“My name is Bonnie. I’m phoning on behalf of Mr. Jackson, CEO of Materia. Mr. Jackson hopes to invite you to our company and discuss a proposal which aims to change the course of neuroscience.”
What do you think?
