英文书推荐 | COUNSELING FOR TOADS — 《蛤蟆先生去看心理医生》原版下载

——如果你为自己负责,就会认识到你对自己是有自主权的。因此你就知道自己有力量来改变处境,更重要的是,有力量改变你自己。
《蛤蟆先生去看心理医生》是去年年底读过的一本很有意思的中文小书,篇幅不长,统共200页左右,一晚上的功夫大约就可以看完。第一遍读完这本书时,我立即欣喜地向家人推荐,说自己好像也跟着此书接受了一个疗程的心理咨询:不仅对心理咨询有了更清晰详细的了解,也对心理学里的一些概念和治疗方法产生了似面对科学般的敬畏,更重要的,这本书让我联想到了自己从童年到成人性格层面的起起伏伏,那些固有的思考模式,行为,困惑,以及后来主动或被动改变的原因。

这两天抽时间读完了英文版,对《蛤蟆先生去看心理医生》有了更深刻的理解。原书中有很多内容,读起来具有让人思考的力量,例如苍鹭医生和蛤蟆的这一段关于不快乐的对话:‘The choice is this: how much longer are you going to blame other people for your own unhappiness?’‘But you know the alternative,’ said Toad petulantly. ‘You want me to blame myself. And I won’t do it.’‘That is not the option I am suggesting at all,’ said Heron. ‘Blaming is done from the Child Ego State, which seems to be your favourite position. But what might be an appropriate response in your Adult State?’
‘Instead of blaming, how about taking responsibility?’
‘If you take responsibility for your-self, you realise that you can take your own authority. Consequently, you realise that you have the power to change your situation and, more importantly, change yourself.’
“选择就是:你还要为自己的不快乐责怪别人多久?” 苍鹭答到。
“可你知道剩下的选择是什么,你想让我责怪自己。我不要。” 蛤蟆气恼地说。
“这完全不是我要说的选项。责怪是人处在’儿童自我状态’里做的事情,好像你最喜欢待在那个状态里。但一个处在’成人自我状态’的人,可能会有怎样恰当的做法呢?相比责怪,负起责任听着如何?”
一阵长久的沉默之后,蛤蟆终于平静地说:“我不确定是否懂你的意思,你是说,我该为自己的行为负责?”
“还包括你自己的情绪,这才是成年人会做的事情。毫无疑问,这很难,但相比于责怪别人,它还真有个天大的好处。”
”什么好处?”
“就是,你能开始对此行动了。如果你为自己负责,就会认识到你对自己是有自主权的。因此你就知道自己有力量来改变处境,更重要的是,有力量改变你自己。”
以及关于自我批判(self-criticism)的这一段对话:
‘There can be no stronger criticism than self-criticism. And no harsher judge than ourselves,’ answered Heron.
‘Oh dear,’ said Toad. ‘Do you mean we can punish ourselves?’
‘Severely,’ said Heron, ‘including torture and, in extreme cases, execution. But the problem is that, even if the sentence is light, it can be imposed for life.’
“没有一种批判比自我批判更强烈,也没有一个法官比我们自己更严苛”
“天哪,你是说我们会惩罚自己?”
“会严厉地惩罚,包括折磨自己,在极端案例里,甚至会施以极刑。但问题是,即便对自己轻刑,这种谴责和惩罚也可能伴随一生,变成无期徒刑。”
